The Act of Humility & Offering

Did you know the Hebrew word Mashiach (translated Messiah) means the anointed one? In Luke 7:36-50 (also Matthew 26:6-13 and Mark 14:3-9), we read how Jesus fulfilled His name when He was anointed in Bethany by a sinful woman.

Imagine that Jesus has come before you. You are so incredibly thankful; you wet His feet with your tears. You wash them with your finest perfumes and oils, which took a year’s salary to buy. Then, you dry His feet with your hair. You continue to sit at His feet, so you can hang onto every word He says. Even when others are scolding you, your focus is on your Savior.

This act of humility and offering is what we are all called to do. The women in our Order lovingly identify with this image. We adore Jesus. We fall at His feet and are brought to tears when we think of our sins. We are overcome with emotion in His presence. We recognize His love and His sacrifice for us. How amazing must of it been to sit at Jesus’ feet - to have the eager anticipation (like a child anticipating a gift) for every word of the Lord and Savior.
