MONASTIC MUSINGS

Prayer Before Leaving Bed in the Morning

Updated: Feb 1, 2022

(based on Scripture and monastic principles)

In the Morning

Have mercy upon me, O God, in Your great goodness; * according to the multitude of Your mercies wipe away my offenses.

PSALM 51:1

You shall purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; * You shall wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

PSALM 51:7

O Lord, open my lips, *

and my mouth shall show forth Your praise.

PSALM 51:15

Create in me a clean heart, O God, * and renew a right spirit within me.

Cast me not away from Your presence, * and take not Your Holy Spirit from me.

O give me the comfort of Your help again, * and sustain me with Your willing Spirit.

PSALM 51:10-12

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; * As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

Most merciful God,

we confess that we have sinned against You

in thought, word, and deed,

by what we have done, and by what we have left undone.

We have not loved You with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves.

We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of Your Son Jesus Christ,

have mercy on us and forgive us;

that we may delight in Your will, and walk in Your ways, to the glory of Your Name. Amen.

Grant to Your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve You with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Our Father in heaven,

hallowed be Your Name,

Your kingdom come,

Your will be done,

on earth as it is in heaven.

Give us today our daily bread.

And forgive us our sins

as we forgive those

who sin against us.

Save us from the time of trial,

and deliver us from evil.

For the kingdom, the power,

and the glory are Yours,

now and forever. Amen.

Give me, this day, the ability to hear You.

Give me, this day the willingness to listen, pray, and serve You with the ear of my heart.

Be with me and those You’ve given me to love. Amen.
